TalkLeft BackUp Site

This is a backup site for TalkLeft: The Politics of Crime. It will also allow immediate posting of updates, photos and video from my i-Phone and other devices during the Democratic National Convention.

Be sure to bookmark it now because if TalkLeft's server crashes or goes down during the convention, you won't be able to access it then to get the link.

This site was set up in 2002 and hasn't been used since, then which explains the very old archived posts. I'm keeping them for posterity. I have updated the templates, added widgets and other new things, and hope it is of value to readers during the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

To comment, you can sign up at Open ID. You may find out when you get there you already have an Open ID account. If possible, please use your Talkleft screen name when commenting so we know who you are.

I experimented with Wordpress and Movable Type before settling on Blogger. For one thing, it the TL server goes down, so would this backup site.

Comments and suggestions, from design to content, are welcome. I'm still trying to figure out how to make the comment template look like the one on TalkLeft, rather than Blogger.

Guess I should have known that "Anne" would be taken, so I am - "Anne in MD" -

here's hoping TL stays up, huh?

Anonymous said...

Or maybe I'm still Anne...whatever

OK. Let's see if an outsider can post... using a Google account.

BTW, this backup site is a very good idea. Thanks and good luck at the convention!

Hmmmm.

This is weird. I don't have a TL account and I just read so being able to comment is a strange feeling.

Hello, to all of you who have made me laugh and think all primary long.

At least if the threads get full tonight, we know where to go. :)

I don't know if this comment will work now that I'm using Open ID rather than my blogger ID.

Haven't actually used the Open ID thing you suggested but looked up 'open id' and found that if you have a blogspot.com or blogger.com blog or a livejournal one (aol, several others too), you already have an open ID. Same with Yahoo.

But I didn't want to use 'andrys1' so I tried claimid.com and they let you use your own webpage or your own blogspot as the username and then you use the 'header' portion of your HTML home page which redirects to your claimid ID. Let's see if it works.

Oh, blogger may have wider margins in its templates and some went to wordpress after google suspended their pages when complaints were made against not-for-Obama pages. No such worry here, with talkleft.

But I think wordpress page templates are wider.

I have my blogspot.com done in classic blogger or blogspot style and I was able to choose wider margins but chose to keep it still somewhat narrow. You can see the very often used basic template style at http://andrys1.blogspot.com

I LIKE that we can quickly tell we're not at the basic talkleft page though! Less confusing.

I'm just checking to see if I can still use my blogger ID here.

Yes, your Google, Blogger and Open ID logins work here.

It's faster than Scoop so there's no reason to limit the number of comments here to 200.

Had to change the displayed name on my Blogger account to reflect my name on TalkLeft, so deleted my previous comment.

Re: More than 200 replies to a post allowed. That would be great (if something like that could be found with Scoop). I do like your layout and options at the primary talkleft.com site.

Have so often started to make a reply to a note (sometimes requested) but couldn't do it .

This secondary backup site was a great idea! And thanks for the intro to OpenID too.

Is the main site down?

Anonymous said...

Am I the only one here?

Teresa in Tenn said...

It's down for me

Nice to have an alternate site. I am just testing as I can not get into main site.

OK, that worked. Now, what are we talking about here? AKA BarnBabe

I'm sure they'll have it back up soon. I wonder how many people remembered this back-up site.

Thank god the mind numbing boringness of the convention is over for the night though. Yikes.

nope, I'm here also. Just trying to figure things out :)

and also I'm nycstray

like I said, still trying to figure out things!

Nice take on your own name!! I like it. And I am glad you are here.

Carville is once agin cracking me up!

ss straybaby said...

Ok, so WTF was up with the song they played after her speech?! O.M.G.

Teresa in Tenn said...

I'm having to go log in on google and then come back here. It says my password is wrong and it's the same one I'm using on google to get here.

Wonder what I'm doing wrong?

ss straybaby said...

Hey AIC!

Heh, it's actually a spin on my business name ;)

Good to see ya! I think I'll flip over to CNN :)

Anonymous said...

CNN is really laying it on thick about how boring it was and how they wasted tv time.

Anderson Cooper just can't seem to get past it. When Donna B and Alex C said tomorrow would bring the 'fire' he asked if he should tell James Carville to make sure to come back tomorrow night then!! LMAO

Teresa in Tenn said...

Tomorrow will bring the fire...Hillary!

ss straybaby said...

How the F*** can Caroline sit there and freakin' BS like that?!

"She'd be on anyone's short list."

Yeah, we all know what THAT means. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Teresa in Tenn said...

Caroline...she would be on any one's short list. Didn't they just sort of say the opposite today, that she wasn't seriously considered and therefore no vetting?

Palomino said...

Didn't see/hear MO's speech. Was driving to and from the airport and listening to a baseball game. How was she?

Site still down. I was thinking when I saw the elaborate MTV DNC stage that this night would be electric with lots of flash and swing. I was wrong. The Prime Time on the East coast made everything late, but in Ctr and Pac time, it wasn't so bad. I am assuming that the networks were in real time. Missed the Kennedy thing but I am sure I will be able to see it again. I certainly hope Jeralyn is having fun at her party. AND I am glad she had us bookmark this site. Very smart lady. TL site still down. Good net coverage on CNN.com.Nice picture of Michele. Lots of Dem coverage. More exciting than the speakers. G'night.BarnBabe

Lord love a duck...they are having a hard time coming up with good things to say about tonight.

Coming up...blogger reaction. I am looking forward to the republican response on Larry King.

ss straybaby said...

Oh cripes. Toobin (sp?!) just made a ref as to how MO is dif than Cindy McCain. Seems to me I heard earlier today that she's (Cindy) is over in Georgia to access humanitarian needs. Not a new role for her.

Oh come on Paul....she wasn't that good!
